S5 Latinists' trip to Italy

In the week from 7 to 11 October, our S5 Latin students explored Campania.

Arriving in Naples, they saw and experienced the atmosphere of one of the Mediterranean's most vibrant ports.

Dominated by Mount Vesuvius and still inhabited by the flamboyant history of a past rich in triumphs and tragedies, this city leaves an unforgettable memory, even for a short stay.

Climbing the volcano and visiting Herculaneum and Pompeii were striking illustrations for our young people of the texts by Pliny and Tacitus that they read together. Paestum, with its enduring monuments, fascinated aspiring builders and budding historians alike.

The clement weather, sunshine, good meals and comfortable hotel all added to the success of the trip.
