Student exchange S3 L3 German with Gesamtschule Aachen-Brandt in Germany/Aachen

"Mrs Frank-Lücking," she said, " 'Das T-Shirt gefällt mir' - We just learned that and I understood." Comment of a student on our way back to Brussels from Aachen. One of the moments where a teacher feels that teaching German is worth it;)

18 L3 German students went to Aachen in April to get in contact with German partners of the same age. Previous to the real encounter they wrote a short 'self-portrait' on both sides, which allowed us to match them.

Arriving in Aachen, the adrenaline was high until they got assigned their partner, whom they had to interview.

After interviewing them about school/life/hobbies we got a guided visit in the school. EEBII students were amazed that one could just walk into the school- without any guards or student card control at the entrance.

Together we went downtown and then German students showed their personal most favorite place in Aachen.

On Tuesday 16 June, the German class came to EEBII and attended some classes of the European students. The contact is made, as well as the connection via social media and students now know why they the struggle to learn German is worth it.

What a nice experience!

Many thanks to our colleague Birgit Frank-Lücking for organizing it.
